Who is responsible for your data
PlanningObjection.com is a trading name of Chembu Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14000992), registered office 69 Chesterfield Road, St Andrews, Bristol, BS6 5DW.
We are the data controller for the information described here. For anything about your data, email contact@planningobjection.com.
What we collect
When you use the free assessment: the planning reference and council you enter. That is not personal information about you and we do not ask for your name at that stage.
When you order a letter: your name, email address, postal address and postcode, your relationship to the site (for example whether you are a direct neighbour), the concerns you select, and anything you write in your own words about the development.
Payment: taken by Stripe. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and a reference for it. We never see or store your card number.
We do not collect special category data. Please do not include health information or anything similar in the free text box.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To write and deliver your letter. Performance of our contract with you. Your name and address go into the letter itself, because councils do not accept anonymous objections.
- To take payment and keep accounting records. Contract, and our legal obligations.
- To answer your questions and handle refunds. Contract.
- To keep the service working and secure. Our legitimate interests in running a reliable service.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. We use these processors:
- Anthropic, in the United States, which runs the AI model that drafts and checks your letter. The details you give us, including what you write in your own words, are sent to it for that purpose. Anthropic does not use data submitted through its API to train its models.
- Stripe, for payments.
- Resend, to send you the email telling you your letter is ready.
- Railway, which hosts the application and its database in the European Union.
We will also disclose information where the law requires it.
Sending data outside the UK
Anthropic and Stripe process data in the United States. Those transfers are made under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, which is the safeguard UK law provides for this.
What you send to the council is public
Worth saying clearly, because it surprises people. When you submit your objection, the council publishes it on the public planning register, normally including your name and address. Councils usually redact email addresses, phone numbers and signatures. That publication is the council's doing, not ours, and it is a condition of objecting at all: anonymous objections carry no weight and are often not registered.
How long we keep it
We keep your order and your letter while your account with us is live, so that your letter link keeps working and we can answer questions about it. You can ask us to delete the letter and the details you gave us at any time and we will do so.
We keep records of the transaction itself for six years after the end of the financial year it falls in, because tax law requires it. Those records are the fact and amount of a payment, not the content of your letter.
Cookies
We ask before setting anything. On your first visit you will see a banner with an Accept and a Decline button, both equally easy to press, and nothing measuring you is set unless you accept.
If you accept, we use Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand how people find the site and whether our advertising works. Those set cookies in your browser and share data with Google. If you decline, the tag runs in a mode that sets no cookies and cannot identify you.
Either way, the site stores your choice so it does not have to ask again, and it stores a note on your device when a purchase has been counted so the same order is not counted twice. Neither identifies you to us. To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser and the banner will appear again.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you,
- correct it if it is wrong,
- delete it,
- restrict or object to how we use it, and
- give it to you, or another provider, in a portable format.
Email contact@planningobjection.com and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.
Changes
If we change how we use your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. See also our terms of service.
